A sub-Rs 500 mobile phone. That's what diversified Xenitis group promises to offer prospective buyers from August. The PC-to-motorcycle maker formally introduced a mobile phone priced at Rs 499 in the presence of members of the state's Assembly standing committee on commerce and industry.
Xenitis chairman Santanu Ghosh said the group has already bagged orders for 1.6 lakh mobile handsets from telecom service providers and some leading mobile phone manufacturers. Xenitis would buy an additional 10 acres for the handset unit near the existing facility of group flagship Xenitis Infotech. The Assembly standing committee on commerce and industry has assured that it would recommend the land request to the state government. Ghosh said Xenitis group is targeting a turnover of Rs 2,000 crore in 2008-09.
